More than likely, the name doesn’t tell you much, but once you see it, you’ll know how to identify it. We’re talking about what is one of the most colorful and recognizable patterns in the entire fashion world (beyond pinstripes, pied-de-poule or gingham): the checkerboard print, also called checkerboard or chess. And it is that this pattern exactly imitates the board of these board games with large white squares, which are combined diagonally with those of other shades: black, green, blue, lilac, pink, red…
Although this pattern has a history spanning more than five decades and has become a classic when it comes to clothes that never go out of style, it has only recently begun to stand out as an absolute trend on the street. Cause? The success of ‘Lady’s Gambit’, the well-known Netflix series, may have had something to do with it. According to a report from the Lyst platform, a few months after its premiere, searches related to checkerboard printing increased 43%As in the two weeks that followed, there was a 21% increase in online searches for Stand Studio’s famous checkerboard print jacket. His appearance in the best street style looks of the last fashion weeks in Paris, Milan or New York also influenced his ‘rebirth’.
Inevitably associated with some very specific fashion brands -such as sportswear From, with its famous slip-on sneakers – the ‘checkerboard’ print is jumping this season to major companies such as Zara, Pull & Bear, Mango or even Primark, making it the absolute protagonist of their new collections including it in trousers, t- shirts, jackets, skirts, jumpsuits… and even socks! What do you think of this trend? Do you love her or do you hate her? If you love these checkerboards as much as we love them, don’t miss this selection of garments we’ve got for you so you can join the hottest trend this coming summer. Which of them will you stay?
