British Airways (BA) has reversed its decision to remove a sitcom about the British Jewish community from its in-flight entertainment package in the wake of the war between Israel and Hamas.
Dissatisfied, The film, about an obsessive journalist at a fictional Jewish newspaper, was recently picked up by Peacock in the US. It was originally scheduled to be shown on BA later this year, but was removed after a content review.
After director Gary Sinyor and others took note, BA made a U-turn following the airline’s recent quarterly content review and said the series would run from early next year.
“We understand that the decision to review the content has upset and hurt the Jewish community, and we are sorry – that was never our intention,” a BA spokesperson said. “We are proud to offer our customers a wide range of entertainment and to constantly review it in light of current events. The series will appear on our plane early next year.”
Sinyor described the initial decision to quit Dissatisfied as a “mistake” and said society had “become scared” since Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel.
“Everyone is walking on eggshells,” he told Deadline. “As a Jewish filmmaker, I have to understand this and – I don’t want to sound too Christian – forgive it. But I still have to dispute where mistakes are made, and delaying a British comedy because of the Middle East was a mistake.
With Paddington’s Tim Downie, Dissatisfied’ The scope of the cringe-worthy comedy approach has been compared to the American hit Control your enthusiasm. It is available on Prime Video in the UK and has also been picked up by Viaplay for Scandinavia, Poland and Benelux. Dissatisfied was written and directed by Sinyor, whose credits include: Leon the pig farmer, Stiff upper lips and New line The old bachelor.
