Convicted of domestic violence, Jonathan Majors excluded from Marvel

A familiar face to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Jonathan Majors has been found guilty of assault and harassment of his former partner, Grace Jabbari, following a trial in New York. Although acquitted on two charges, his conviction prompted the Marvel franchise to end their partnership.

Marvel’s debacle continues. After the commercial failures of its last films, the franchise has lost one of its favorite actors. Jonathan Majors was declared on Monday, December 18th guilty of assault and harassment towards his ex-partnerGrace Jabbari, following a trial in New York.

Physical and psychological violence

The actor, known for his role in Creed IIIhe had become one of the leading figures of the MCU playing Kang, a major villain of the new Marvel phases and had appeared notably in Loki or even inside Ant man. He has distinguished himself in a flourishing career, juggling both with the African-American auteur cinema of Spike Lee (From 5 Blood) or the very notable series Lovecraft Country.

On March 25 he was arrested following an argument with his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari. The latter testified that he was violently attacked by the 34-year-old actor: Majors thus attempted to recover his phone, twisting his arm and hitting his head. Although he continued to maintain his innocence during the trial, Variety revealed that other people worked alongside him on the film Quantimania they would also have reported facts of psychological violence.


Wondering in the turmoil

The reaction from Disney and Marvel was not long in coming: a few hours just after the verdict was announced, they announced the studies put an end to their collaboration with the actor. However, two major projects were in the pipeline. Jonathan Majors would have been the protagonist of some of the most anticipated films of the MCU: Avengers 5: Kang Dynastysequel planned for 2026, as wellAvengers 6: Secret Wars.

For now the actor faces a sentence of up to one year in prison. The sentence will be pronounced February 6 Next. Until then, it remains to be seen whether Marvel will replace his actor or will find a sleight of hand with the screenplay to justify the disappearance of his character…
