TO UPDATE: House Republicans said they would ignore congressional proceedings against Hunter Biden after he refused to testify behind closed doors to lawmakers.
Rep. James Comer (R-KY) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) also said the House will vote Wednesday on whether to approve an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
“Today’s obstruction by Hunter Biden underscores the need for a formal vote,” they said.
Earlier, Hunter Biden appeared on Capitol Hill, where he told reporters that he was willing to testify publicly.
Comer and Jordan said: “President Biden and his family must be held accountable for their corruption and obstruction. And that’s what we’re going to give to the American people.”
But the White House was quick to point out that the committee had yet to provide evidence that the president had done anything wrong.
Hunter Biden was indicted on additional federal tax charges last week, intensifying a special counsel’s criminal case against him. He is also charged with weapons possession. Biden has denied that he is guilty of the previous allegations.

President Joe Biden’s son has called out Republicans for everything from falsely accusing his father of having a “financial interest in my company” to leaking the contents of his laptop and publishing nude photos. The president’s son admitted in the candid speech that his own finances suffered during times of deep addiction.
“For six years I have been the target of Trump’s relentless attack machine screaming ‘Where’s Hunter?'” Hunter Biden told reporters. “Well, here’s my answer, I’m here.”
The Republican-led House Oversight Committee gave Hunter Biden until Wednesday to testify, but lawmakers insisted it would happen behind closed doors. The president’s son and his lawyers rejected that plan, saying it would only lead to leaks in which partisan lawmakers could twist his testimony to their own advantage.
“Let me be as clear as possible,” Biden said, “my father had no financial interest in my company, not as a practicing attorney, not as a board member of Burisma, not in my partnership with the private Chinese businessman not, not in … “my investments at home and abroad, and certainly not as an artist.”
After Biden’s speech to reporters, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, along with Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the chairman of the Oversight Committee, told the press: “If Congress asks you to testify, you will be expected to testify.”
However, Jordan had previously violated a subpoena to testify about the January 6 attacks on the Capitol.
House Republicans are moving toward a vote on whether to launch an impeachment inquiry into the president, even as their evidence that Joe Biden was involved in his son’s business appears suspect. A vote could take place this week, with hearings starting next year.
Hunter Biden said, “What these Republicans are doing is not fair or decent.” They lied over and over again about every aspect of my personal and professional life, so much so that their lies became false facts to be believed by many who believed.”
