Joe Biden attends shiva to pay tribute to Norman Lear

President Joe Biden attended a Shiva at a West Coast fundraiser to mourn Norman Lear, who died this week at age 101.

According to Reuters, Biden attended the shiva at the Lear residence.

President and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a longtime friend of Lear’s, also paid tribute to him at a fundraiser in Hollywood for the Biden-Harris re-election campaign.

The president praised Lear as a “transformative force in American culture” and also noted his decades of political activism, saying he “fought headlong for freedom of speech, women’s suffrage, the environment, the right to vote and more.”

Lear’s political influence went far beyond the influence of his plays. In the early 1980s, he founded People for the American Way, an advocacy group that opposed the growing power of the religious right. The organization has been involved in some major political battles, including opposing the nomination of Robert Bork to the Supreme Court in 1987.

Biden attended private fundraising events with high-dollar donors throughout the day and will co-host an event with First Lady Jill Biden on Saturday night.

On Saturday afternoon, the First Lady attended a fundraiser at NeueHouse Hollywood hosted by Matthew Crowley and Martha Leon De La Barra. According to a pool report, actress Connie Britton proposed marriage and also held a question-and-answer session with actress Elizabeth Banks.

According to the pool report, the first lady said: “I wish this election was about simple political differences.” I wish it was about character differences or merit. But fundamentally these elections are about democracy.”

“We are the party that defends it, not the one that tears it apart at the seams…” We are the party that protects the right of the people of this country to live free, not the party that punches the oppressive of Praise dictators do not hold. .”
