“As you know, another mass shooting took place today, this time in my hometown of Waldale, Texas,” Matthew McConaughey said in a social media post this evening.
The Oscar winner spent the first 12 years of his life in Waldale, about 80 miles west of San Antonio, where 19 students and 2 adults died in a school shooting today.
In his post, McConaughey urged Americans to find common ground, “to reconcile our wants with our needs.”
He accused every adult American, regardless of party affiliation, on their feet.
“This is an epidemic we can control, and we all know we can do better no matter which side we’re on. We must act better. “Precautions must be taken so that no parent goes through what their parents and their predecessors went through.”
His suggestion is to seek the true spirit.
“The real call to action now is for all Americans to increasingly look in the mirror and say, ‘What do we really value?’
So let’s ask ourselves, ‘What small sacrifices can we individually make today to keep a healthy and safe nation, state and neighborhood tomorrow?
