In search of eco-consciousness, fashion turns to water bottles

Ah, the water bottle… another purely functional object taken from the world of fashion to become a trend. But this time it comes with good arguments: it helps us consume less plastic and maybe even achieve zero waste!

It all started with the water bottles and their matching bottle holders seen on some of the runways: Chanel with a gold chain intertwined with leather, Marine Serre in its signature moiré technical fabric and Jacquemus in a more minimalist leather version.

Replace it-bags with water bottles to give yourself an eco-friendly guarantee

Gradually, fashionistas began to show off their water bottles on social networks, as if they were new it-bagwhile the rest of the world dragged the same old Quechua away from the outlets” green class ” elementary School.

Obviously, as the trend took hold, many began to want to take a step forward in the fashionization of this utilitarian object. And for once, this trend can be as good for our wallets as it is for our health and that of the planet! In France alone, 310,000 tons of PET plastic bottles are produced every year, according to the specialized website Recygo.fr. The average Frenchman consumes 96 per year, so 25 million are thrown away per day. AND we only recycle 58%…

While France is the 5th largest consumer of plastic water bottles (in a world where 9.3 billion liters of bottles are sold per year), drinking from a bottle becomes a small eco-friendly act that raises awareness . And if you can also have a stylish one, so much the better! Luxury brands have understood this, and are trying to integrate their model into an aesthetic inspired by hiking: gorpcore.

Survivors, but make it fashionable

Yes, yes, we warn you right away: Napapijri raincoats, The North Face down jackets and other Patagonia fleeces are increasingly attracting fashionistas, but also fashionistas. Who can thus talk about their love for the great outdoors, even if they have not seen its color for a year of confinement and teleworking.

The pandemic continues and we have the impression that it is the end of the world in slow motion? Survivors, but make it fashionable! Decathlon is also seeing itself conquered by an unusual clientele… Faced with the possible exhaustion of stocks in the Quechua cult water bottle section, here is a selection of reusable water bottles for water bottles with style.

Small tips to prolong the life of water bottles

Just think carefully clean the bottles by handinstead of in the dishwasher, at least once a week, with hot water and soap, paying particular attention to the neck where most of the bacteria resides.

A little more advice, if you hate the taste of chlorine or limescale in running wateris to always keep a stick of coal Japanese (also called binchotan). Scientific studies have attested its purifying qualities, in particular towards nitrates and phosphates. So much so that even the Eau Paris quality laboratory uses it, as explained in a fact-checking article on binchotan alongside The Express :

“ The properties of activated carbon for the elimination of chlorine and some organic micropollutants are well known. As such, it is regularly used, in grains or powder, in numerous drinking water treatment plants – including those in Eau Paris -, in particular to eliminate pesticides. »

And if you ever store anything other than H2O in your fashionista bottle but the smell of the impure drink lingers, you can start from scratch with a cap of vinegar white diluted in water up to the neck. Don’t be shy, the beast!
