The Univision interview wasn’t tough enough for Donald Trump, says host Jorge Ramos

Univision host Jorge Ramos is unhappy with the way his network handled an interview with former President Donald Trump.

Ramos criticized the network in a column published Saturday, saying journalists should continue to question those in power. Ramos is a longtime Trump critic and his comments were aimed at a Latino audience, some of whom are increasingly disillusioned with Democratic policies and could have implications for what is expected to be another close presidential election in 2024.

“That is why it is very dangerous not to confront Trump. And so it is our moral obligation to confront him every time we have the journalistic opportunity. But I understand that not everyone agrees with this and I am opening the debate here,” said Ramos.

“I believe we must question and confront Trump for democracy, for immigration rights and simply for good journalism,” he wrote.

Ramos was thrown out of a press conference by Trump in 2015.

“What few people know is that after this incident, Trump allowed me to return to the press conference and ask him questions for about ten minutes. I confronted him about his plans to build a wall on the border with Mexico and deport millions of undocumented people. I said that many Hispanics despise him because of his anti-immigrant rhetoric and that no matter what he expected, he would not win the Latino vote. And he didn’t do it in 2016 or 2020,” he wrote.

The Univision/Trump interview was also filmed by Ana Navarro The view and actor John Leguizamo, among other staunch liberal voices

“It’s time for us Latinos to hold Univision accountable,” Navarro said. Leguizamo took to social media and urged activists not to go to Univision.

Ramos concluded his editorial by acknowledging that journalists must be impartial.

“Obviously, we must not take sides and are committed to spreading the messages of all candidates in the 2024 presidential election. But at the same time, we cannot abandon our responsibility to ask hard and precise questions. That’s what journalism is for. These journalistic principles apply to everyone,” he wrote.

Fox News devoted a segment to Univision’s response and backtracked. He said any outrage over the Univision interview reflects growing panic about Biden’s polls.
