Violence against women: calls to 3919 increased by 12% between 2021 and 2022

The National Women’s Violence Information Hotline primarily receives calls about domestic violence. Reports of sexual assault also increased by 26%.

According to data released on Wednesday by the National Federation of Women’s Solidarity (FNSF), the number of calls to 3919, the national toll-free information number on violence against women, increased by 12% between 2021 and 2022.

Requests for domestic and sexual violence are increasing

In 2022, 57,137 calls for violence against women were received, out of 3919, which is 6,206 more calls than in 2021. The vast majority of cases involve domestic violence (52,627), a figure up by 8%. Reports of sexual assault increased by 26%. According to the FNSF, this is explained by “night opening” of this line, which “tends to encourage more trafficking in sexual assault claims “. Since the end of June 2021, 3919 has been open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Between 10,000 and 12,000 calls are handled every month.
