A British tourist has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing his wife with a screwdriver following an argument in their Turkish hotel room.
The 26-year-old woman was found dead at around 12:30 local time on Tuesday, reportedly at the Ulubat Castle Hotel in Istanbul’s Fatih Mevlanakapı district.
Hotel staff reported hearing “noises” coming from a room and found the victim “in a pool of blood”. Medical teams later arrived and pronounced her dead.
The woman was discovered with cuts to her throat and all over her body, and investigators concluded that she had been killed with a screwdriver.
The Turkish police launched an investigation and immediately discovered that her 28-year-old husband was reportedly wearing a blood-white T-shirt after she tried to get away from the crime scene in a taxi.
The suspect confessed to the murder and said he threw the screwdriver into the hotel room’s toilet.
According to Turkish media, the suspect was “sentenced to prison by the court for the intentional murder of his wife.”

After his arrest, the suspect was interrogated by the homicide squad.
He claimed the victim had given him drugs on the day of the attack, leading to an argument, according to Turkish media.
The couple argued, he allegedly said, before he repeatedly stabbed his partner with the screwdriver, killing her.
In a statement to the police, he said he was taking medication for “mental disorders”.
He reportedly admitted to fleeing the scene after hiding the evidence.
The police managed to nab the suspect by contacting the taxi driver and asking him to go to the nearest police station or police station
The suspect was taken away by Istanbul police after his arrest and was shown in Turkish media in handcuffs and with his head bowed.
CCTV footage also shows the suspect leaving the hotel wearing only the same outfit.
The investigation into the incident continues.
The couple reportedly arrived in Turkey on November 11 after a flight to Sabiha Gökçen Airport.
They reportedly settled into their hotel on November 14, where the victim was later found dead.
The Foreign Office told MailOnline in a statement: “We have not been contacted for consular assistance, but our staff are available 24 hours a day to support British citizens abroad.”
MailOnline has contacted the Ulubat Castle Hotel, believed to be the scene of the attack, for comment.
