After long months of litigation and work stoppages that have rocked the entertainment industry in the United States, an agreement was finally reached between the actors and the major Hollywood studios. The agreement, concluded on Wednesday 8 November, officially marks immediate end to the strike.
A three-year collective agreement
Actors and film studios have agreed to a new three-year collective bargaining agreement. Qualified as a measure “extraordinary scope” from the union to some 160,000 membersSAG-AFTRA (The Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), this new agreement will be investeda billion dollars, funded by the studios like Disney, Netflix, Warner Bros or even Universal.
The impact of the strike was felt by actors, stuntmen and dancers. With the exception of a minority of big stars, many professionals have seen their financial situations collapse.
