Cyberharassment: Instagram and TikTok will make access easier in 3018

New features will be added to both networks to combat cyber harassment of users on these platforms. An initiative piloted in collaboration with the e-Enfance association.

Thursday 9 November is National Day Against Bullying in Schools. For the occasion, the platforms TikTok and Instagram have announced that they are joining forces with the e-Enfance association, to help young users who are victims or witnesses of cyberharassment to call 3018, the national help number for victims of digital violence .

Direct connection to 3018

On Instagram, anyone who reports harassment will see a phone call button appear which will allow them to immediately reach the listeners, psychologists and lawyers of 3018. They are available every day from 9am to 11pm.

There is no call button in sight on TikTok: those who report a case of harassment now see a link appear that takes them back to the 3018 site.

Speaking to AFP, Justine Atlan, director general of e-Enfance, welcomed these new features: ” We have been asking for a safety button for years, we have also asked for it at European level. This took some time to understand but we are pleased that direct access has been integrated (…) This will allow young victims, once their complaint has been established, to benefit from immediate specific support “.

Indeed, the integrated call button allows the user to access the 3018 help service without leaving the application and therefore simplifies support.

A quarter of middle and high school students are victims of cyberbullying

According to a survey carried out for e-Enfance in mid-October, 15% of elementary school students have already faced cyberbullying, 25% of middle school students and 27% of high school students. Even a quarter of families have already had to deal with this situation involving a minor.

To deal with this phenomenon, the government presented a series of measures at the end of September, ranging from the systematic reporting of harassment cases to the courts to the desire to exclude student harassers from social networks. Because 86% of children aged 8 to 18 are registered on this type of platform, including 67% of schoolchildren, 93% of middle school students and 96% of high school students.
