Bill Gates is to blame for everything: conspiracy theorists again blame Microsoft’s creator

Bill Gates was hit hard at the start of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Then the founder of Microsoft became the hero of all conspiracy theories, and now, two years later, when the spread of the infection begins to wane, Bill Gates is again blamed for all the troubles of the world. And this time, conspiracy theorists claim he’s involved in a new monkeypox virus outbreak.

The truth is, Bill Gates said in an interview last year that he was tackling a possible outbreak of a new virus focused on smallpox. Internet conspiracy theorists spread it quickly on the Web, especially on Twitter. Users are now certain that Bill Gates was involved in the outbreak of the monkeypox virus, which does not usually spread beyond endemic countries.

“I hope in five years I can write a book called ‘We are ready for the next pandemic,’ but that will require tens of billions of dollars of research. The US and UK will be part of it. It is likely annually that a WHO-level pandemic task force will take over surveillance and play so-called ‘germ games’. You say, “OK, what if a bioterrorist brought smallpox to ten airports?” How will the world react to that?” Bill Gates said in an interview for Policy Exchange.

The monkeypox virus, which started spreading in Europe in early May, was found in a British citizen who had just arrived from Nigeria, where this virus is common. Currently, around 90 cases of infection have been registered in the world: Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, France, Belgium, USA, Australia and Canada.
