Come on girls, sit down, we’ll explain everything to you. If you’re still like a chicken facing a knife when you hear your heir say, “Hey mom, say ‘what'” and you say, “What the hell” while screaming, know that you’re not at the end of your troubles. Yes, here’s the little news from the playground, which I called “skeu skeu”. Yes, I know, I remain doubtful too.
“Skeu skeu”, the new trend
Yes, talking about trend for a school word is a bit strong, but at Madmoizelle we like to aim high, you know. Here then is what risks becoming the new fashionable expression starting from primary school (or even nursery school, we’re crazy): “skeu skeu”. If you have children or hang out with friends or family, you can’t escape: the child starts screaming/singing “skeu skeu” before performing a little dance with his legs and arm. Yes, it’s a reality, we have to face it. But where does this thing come from? As is often the case, just take a look at TikTok to find the source.
“skeu skeu” debuts on TikTok
Basically it all started with a song invented by three friends, Jogga, Wilsko and 7ia, and released on September 20th. It is in this that we can hear the words “we need Skeu Skeu”, “in the Skeu Skeu” or even “we communicate in the Skeu Skeu”. So, what is the famous Skeu Skeu, you ask, with wild eyes, trembling with suspense? Well, wait, because it doesn’t really mean anything. And it’s not me who says it, it’s the author of the song himself, Jogga, who confides Parisian :
It just popped out of my head[…] I happen to say everything in the studio, words that have never existed and Skeu Skeu is released.
Jogging through Le Parisien
But what originally meant nothing has now morphed into an expression that means a little bit of everything:
When I leave a good party with my friends, I can say that Skeu did it. It was really fantastic. It’s a bit like a west also… it can actually mean anything.
In any case, what stands out on TikTok, with the hashtag #skeuskeu having almost 200 million views, is that this trend pushes children and teenagers to do dance moves and share them on the social network:
There, you know everything! “Skeu skeu” is not that bad as we can see. But at least you’ll know what you’re dealing with, and they won’t seem like old-fashioned daronnes, don’t thank me, it’s above all altruism.
