Replace for one day the slogan of the city of Richelieu “One city, one man” with the formula “One city, women”: this is the mission that the Georgette Sand collective has given itself.
Founded in 2013, the latter has worked since its creation to deconstruct gender stereotypes and improve the visibility of women in public spaces. It is therefore no coincidence that he once again puts down his suitcases in Richelieu, in Indre-et-Loire, whose entire history revolves around the famous minister of Louis XIII, who also gave his name to the city where he is born.
A feminist festival in a rural setting
After the success of its first edition last year, Georgette Sand organizes its feminist meetings again this Saturday 23 September. They will take place at La Teinturerie, a third creative and cultural venue in Richelieu.
“The objective is to create a moment of conviviality and reflection around the issues of equality between women and men. Two priority themes guide the 2023 edition of the festival: economic inequalities and women’s health,” explains the collective in its press release.

On the festival programme: an “empowermeuf” workshop to “learn to use feminist self-affirmation techniques”, a self-defence and aikido workshop led by Myriam Boussaboua, 4th dan black belt, a poetic nap with the poet Blanche Baudouin, a hunt to the treasure, a round table on women’s health and access to care in rural areas or a conference by sociologist Sibylle Gollac, author of the book The genre of capital. Throughout the day there will also be an exhibition on the emotional and sexual health of adolescents organized by Family Planning 37, as well as a concert by the feminist group Les Petites Lèvres.
“This festival is definitely anchored in rural areas and its problems. Celebrate our struggles by decentralizing the feminist debate, very present in large cities, in order to energize and multiply places of exchange on these issues”, underlines the Georgette Sand collective.
