Spoiler alert: The story below highlights highlights from the season 5 finale of Fox’s The Resident.
Emily Wankamp is back on Fox resident It’s the season 5 finale tonight and while it was exciting to see Nick Nevin and Conrad Hawkins (Matt Chucher) reunite, sadly it’s only happened in flashbacks.
Conrad has been in a romantic relationship since losing his love and his daughter’s mother, but memories can help him shed that anxiety.
Throughout the episode, Conrad remembers the good old days, with Nick often lost in thought. She smiles as she and her daughter Gigi stop in the car at a traffic light, falling out of a dream she had with Nick on a certain date.
She may never find the magic she did with Nick, but she can truly fall in love and move on with her life. And when you talk to a patient who has suddenly lost a loved one, everything becomes clear, she.
ᲪLife is short.
Devon Praves (Manish Dial) is deeply affected by the loss of a patient, a pregnant mother, and his wife in the midst of their planned departure from Atlanta to keep Massa and Lela (Anuji Joshi) apart. He may not be planning to have children, but he finally realizes that he is ending a special relationship for an uncertain future.
Series executive producer Andrew Chapman emailed the events of the fifth season finale via Deadline and explained via Flashback whether fans can expect to see more of Nic in the future.
Deadline: What can you share about how you convinced Wankamp to return?
Andrew Chapman: Emily was in the game from the beginning. Having to leave the show abruptly at the start of season 5, he was never allowed to say goodbye to the team and return to Atlanta. I really wanted to do it. She was also excited about the closure of Nick and Conrad’s relationship on the show. When we asked him to be in the season finale, he jumped at the chance. He was great.
Deadline: What was the energy on set when you met Matt?
Chapman: It seems like All Nick and Conrad fans know and love him.
I wasn’t there but the show was created by Amy Holden Jones and she said the energy on set was very strong. The final scene, shot by Matt Chuchri and Emily Wankamp, with Nick and Conrad in bed together and discussing what life would be like if one of them dies, was on the verge of tears.
Deadline: What are your plans for Conrad’s future?
Chapman: We wanted to end the entire season with this episode so that we could finally understand that Conrad is emotionally ready to move on with his life. However, we wanted to delay choosing who to go with until season 6, when we could start a brand new script involving Conrad in a love story. We have very specific plans for who she will choose in her love life, but you have to stick with season six to find out what those plans are!
Deadline: Can Nick come back in the future via flashback?
Chapman: That’s it, no more plans to get back together with Emily.
Deadline: Is it safe to assume Devon won’t be traveling to Baltimore? What can you share about the future of his difficult relationship with Leila?
Chapman: We can assume that Devon isn’t out of the hospital yet. But we want him to remain a superstar scientist, an ambitious young doctor with big plans. These plans may yet conflict with his relationship with Lela.
Deadline: Seeing her sister Padma (Anesha Joshi) pregnant with twins seems like it could turn things around for Lela. Is this what you’re arguing about?
Chapman: Yes, she’s able to look to the future as a potential mother thanks to her sister, but she’s also an ambitious young doctor like Devon with big plans. Ambitions and plans can still clash with desires, stay as a couple and become a family.
Deadline: Bell (Bruce Greenwood) discussed Lila’s future and how she would eventually prepare for the role. What can you share on this front?
Chapman: In season 6, we plan to delve deeper into Bell’s transition as teacher and mentor. We plan for Season 6 to be the final rescue for Bell, a character who started the show as the villain in season one and will now become a respected teacher and mentor.
Deadline: Bell has been unsuccessful this season. You know a thing or two about weddings. What are your plans for the Bell/Voss wedding?
Chapman: Yes, weddings are for us! Who doesn’t love a good wedding? We plan to start very early in season 6 with Bell and Keith Voss (Jane Lives).
Deadline: How involved will Raptor Dad (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) be? Will this cute baby help her survive the loss of her mother? Will she get him and Padma back together?
Chapman: We think Age Austin is the father of two young children and has no romantic relationship with the mother of those children, it’s a very juicy scenario. We think parenting will help him recover from the loss of his mother, but we doubt it will make him a more compelling version of the infamous Raptor. Anyway, let’s hope not!
Deadline: What stories will you tell next season?
Chapman: We’ve planned soap opera bouquets for season 6: Conrad and his love life, Devon and Lila and their first family, Kitty and Bell’s wedding, Cade (Kyle Ronan) and his narcissistic father (Andrew McCarthy) and Billy (Jessica Lucas). ) and her longing for Conrad.
But we also want to delve into our classic, unreliable medical stories: dependence on doctors’ ranks, the corruption of medicine through money, doctors who can practice when they shouldn’t, street violence, and its devastating effects on hospitals. Don’t be afraid, resident He will continue to address American health issues in each episode.
