The recap of Drag Race ep.2: take out the veils, the coming out stories of the queens will shock you

Find every Monday on Madmoizelle the recap of season 2 of Drag Race France! In this second episode, the queens go from laughter to tears as they prepare for their Talent Show.

Previously on: in the first episode of the second season of Drag Race France, the queens showed up and came up with their anthem for us. Come on, all in chorus “nanananananana
we are legendary”!

And now: back in the shop after Rose’s elimination, which saddens everyone, but especially her drag partner, Punani. “It was heartbreaking,” confides the queen. As in any good Drag Race montage, pain soon gives way to general enthusiasm for this second week of racing!

Mini Challenge: queens have to dress up in minutes in “pandrag” e
dance to Chantal Goya’s “Pandi Panda” remix. But what do the writers of Drag Race turn to to imagine such challenges? It’s Paloma, in “Drama Queens” (where she debriefs this season 2, don’t miss it!), who best sums up the unlikely looks on the catwalk, talking about “late night pandas.” This very WTF challenge is won by Moon and her “Dark Panda”.

Big challenge : it’s time for Talent Show! The ten queens have two minutes to deliver a dazzling performance, seducing Nikki, jurors Daphne Bürki, Kiddy Smile and accompanying them this week, Zahia Dehar. Mami Watta, a big fan of the actress and model, is super excited. We too !

Shocking coming out stories

Confession in the workshop : Mami Watta explains that she grew up in a very religious Ivorian family. She arrived in France two years ago, after coming out to her mother and undergoing conversion therapy. In Côte d’Ivoire, Mami Watta represents a water spirit, evil, who possesses those who are judged”deviant”, like gays. “They say they have the spirit of Mami Watta, I wanted to claim it”. This moment in particular touched fans on Twitter. Moon adds that there are also conversion therapies in Switzerland. The young trans woman explain in clear terms how important it is for parents to listen to their LGBTQIA+ children.

In turn, Ginger Bitch tells his forced coming out, 20 years ago, with working parents. Her mother then told him that she was “sick“. The queens flock to his tears. Tone analysis: “It’s not just a hug, it’s a traumatic hug. Every person in this room has experienced a trauma related to who they are. ».

Bring back my queens!

Let’s move on to another emotional sequence: the queens of the first season of Drag Race France they parade again on the podium to watch the Talent Show. “It’s the Lament”summed up Daphne, tearfully.

Keiona opens the talent show with an extraordinary voguing performance, including I don’t know how many “drops of death” and a wig change. Suffice it to say, the standard is high! With a burlesque show as a fitness queen, with 80s atmospheres, Punani wants to prove she’s not “what a cold beauty”. Without being revolutionary, his performance is successful. Vespi plays the futuristic robot with a disco ball head, but is faced with a technical problem. His show, ambitious, lacks a fall.

It is again Piche who best describes the crazy performance of Sara Forever, who dances the opera in a very personal way: “I don’t know what’s going on in Sara’s head, but I really want to have an after party there”.

Ginger Bitch Proves She Lives Up To Her Drag Queen Name! She throws herself into a roast that spares no one. “How are you my little Kahena, is this your first episode 2?” he tells a shocked and funny room. Punani comments: “she shoots live ammunition and no one has a bulletproof vest” ! He concludes his passage with a tribute to Miss Vanji, iconic drag queen of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Kitty Space’s performance as an old lady who transforms into a queen of the night is a bit light compared to other queens. Mami Watta gives a performance that gave me goosebumps: in voice over, he talks about his relationship with racism and dances, invoking the famous spirit of Mami Watta.

Cookie Cunty follows a family puppet show, which only half works. “It is important to know which hole we put which hand into” sums up Piche, never short of jokes! Moon gives an artistic, pretty crazy performance. “I love it!” throw Daphne. Same girl. Let’s save the best for last (as evidenced by I a treasure?): Piche launches into a heartbreaking rap, with original lyrics. Big down to his balaclava suit, with the lock attached to his ball.

parade : The category is 2 in 1. Keiona confirms her gorgeous shape in a sexy zebra print dress that transforms into a red sheath for the coolest effect. Sara Forever focuses on a phallus/vulva outfit: nice but we have already seen your vulva during your presentation of Sara! Kitty Space probably saved her spot with her caged look that transforms into a fiery phoenix. Fly, flamboyant bird!

Moon teases Swiss influencers with her awesome mountain look (gloves in a bra!) but with a slightly lazy reveal. Ginger Bitch sports a double look a la Jackie Kennedy and a Marilyn Monroe. Good idea but she kept a blonde wig for the two icons, and that’s a no! I love Mami Watta’s water spirit gouache ensemble, but she also doesn’t really have a revelation, just like Vespi and her goddess look of hers. Paying homage to her region, Piche closed the show wearing a revisited Arles dress, which transformed into a magnificent matador dress. His fashion tribute to his diverse origins is a success.

Keiona is very moved to represent the ballroom scene: “Your community is proud,” assures Kiddy Smile. Otherwise, we learn that Piche has only been dragging for a year?! So much talent deployed in such a short time… She’s the big winner of the week! AND he has his fans on Twitter. Safe, Mami Watta breaks down in tears.

Lip sync : super moving (surely, this week, we had to think about handkerchiefs), contrasts Vespi and Cookie on the title “Everything” by Lara Fabian. Vespi struggles and takes off her clothes one by one, but Cooki’s experience makes all the difference. They end up in each other’s arms. The lip sync of Drag Race France they certainly have an extra soul. You don’t get bored in front, unlike those of the All Stars 8, let alone them! Unsurprisingly, it is the up-and-coming Vespi who has to leave the competition. “Okay, I’m going to learn to sew!” » concludes.

Who, who, who will be the queen?

Keiona, Piche and Mami Watta stood out for me this week. You’ll have to see them outside their comfort zone to confirm their versatility. And you, what are your favourites? I’ll see you next week !
