“Have you ever danced for money? ». This more than inappropriate question is systematically asked to women applying for a job at Gates Ventures, the private office of the billionaire Bill Gates.
Questions to assess their vulnerability to blackmail
A survey published in The Wall Street Journal reveals the systematic nature of the intimate questions posed to women, and only to women, during job interviews by employers in the company. These refer to theirs “sexual history, past drug use or other aspects of their private life”.
The purpose of these intrusive questions? Evaluate whether these candidates are “vulnerable to blackmail”. Obviously, in the course of the investigation, the American newspaper did not find any male candidates for the same office to which these questions were asked.
Among the curious questions asked are questions about pornography film consumption habits, extramarital affairs they may have had, or even if they maintain naked on their phones.
According to a company spokeswoman, no discrimination because of the answers
In their defense, a Gates Ventures spokeswoman said the questioning was irrelevant. “This line of questioning would be unacceptable and a violation of Gates Ventures’ agreement with the contractor”he told the newspaper, stating that no job offers have been cancelled based on this questionnaire.
