Very nice: how was the Jacquemus show in Versailles and why is the fashion industry still not satisfied with the designer’s work?

Jacquemus shows are a separate art. The designer knows exactly how to properly package the product so that it will be (or look) delicious, desirable and very beautiful. Simon Port Jacquemus has an absolutely incredible talent. And it’s not just the fact that the master works with fantastic cuts and proportions. Just the same packaging.

A few years ago, a domestic designer realized that a beautiful painting can sell anything. When it comes to the Simon Port Jacquemus brand, it turns out exactly the same.

It announces that each collection is special and very personal, and shows are either held in a lavender field or in Hawaii or the salt mountains of Camargue. The locations are truly stunning – this was noted by all critics (even the most picky).

In terms of marketing and public relations, the brand has been successful. Remember those huge bags of Le Bambino circulating in Paris? What about the impressive toast at the Jacquemus boutique? And the blue pop-up at Selfridges store in London, a surreal interpretation of the designer’s own bathroom? Simon has a lot of crazy (in a good sense) ideas. We envy even such a flight of fantasy.

The last show that took place last night was no exception to the rule. Jacquemus announced in the same loud voice, adding that the Palace of Versailles was not chosen as the place by chance. He said on a banned social network that the first date with his soul mate took place there five years ago. It’s poignant to say the least.

The set design of the show is also striking in scale. Along the 400-meter red catwalk, which is located close to the water, models are littered. And the guests were looking at a new collection of boats. The idea is very interesting, but many industry experts have managed to joke that Simon always deliberately seats guests further (or doesn’t) so that garments whose cut leaves a lot to be desired are less visible.

As for the Le Chouchou collection, it was a ballet eulogy in its purest form. We saw microscopic tutu skirts, mesh tights, see-through dresses and multi-wire bras on the red runway. However, ballet shoes with square capes (just like pointe shoes) and heeled ballet shoes attracted the most attention. We are sure that soon all fashion influencers will have them.

Well, how about the cherry necklace we saw not only on the podium but also at the fashion show invitations? There’s something truly new about this piece of jewelry that Simon Port Jacquemus has yet to date.

By the way, there was also no reference. The most attentive viewers noticed that the three-layer pearl necklace with a stone in the middle is very reminiscent of the necklace owned by Princess Diana.

We talked about the good stuff, now we turn on the armchair critiques and do what we love under the codename “not for us to judge but we will discuss”. One of the main claims of the fashion community is that most of the pieces in the collection are unwearable. Take, for example, a ball gown decorated with sequins. How to walk in it if there is no armhole?

The second claim centers on the fact that Simon failed to show anything radically new for several seasons in a row, leaving only a nice picture in different places. We saw the same tops with laces, sheer inserts and an asymmetrical cut on the catwalk six months ago, a year or even two years ago.

Yet, no matter how the industry reacts to the lack of anything fresh in Jacquemus’ collections, the brand is still discussed by the most authoritative glossy publications, and beautiful pictures of the location are actively shared by all Internet users. Isn’t that confirmation that Simon has won again?
