Finally in court. Kevin Spacey accused of various sexual assaults, rapes and non-consensual sexual contact has been on trial at Southwark Crown Court in London since Wednesday 28 June.
Twelve charges are being held against the 63-year-old actor, who pleads not guilty. He was first tried in the summer of 2022 for four cases of sexual assault committed on three men, between 2005 and 2013, when he was director of the Old Vic theater in London.
Last November, the proceedings were extended to another case of rape and sexual assault committed on another man between 2001 and 2004.
Sexual assault and indecent assault allegations in the United States
The first allegations surfaced in 2017, in the wake of media coverage of the #MeToo movement. Meanwhile, he had been written out of the series House of cards, in which he played the lead role. For his part, he had declared himself full of confidence a few weeks ago ZEIT magazine : “In ten years, it will be irrelevant. My work will outlive me. And that’s what we’ll remember.”.
However, it’s not just in the UK that Kevin Spacey is accused of sexual assault. In the US, he was accused of assault by the actor Antonio Rep, and is accused of indecent assault and sexual assault against an 18-year-old man. But none of these proceedings resulted in a conviction. The trial in London is expected to last a month.
