Although the Gender Equality Index has been established and aims to combat wage inequalities, it would appear that the proposed measures are not enough for women. According to the study People at work 2023 led by ADP, 61% of them feel underpaid, compared to 49% of men.

Wage inequality: mothers are still too disadvantaged
This survey, conducted among more than 32,000 workers in 17 countries, including France, specifies that this figure is even higher. when women become mothers: 65% of them find their salary too lowcompared to 52% of fathers.
And this study doesn’t even take into account the burden of mothers’ unpaid housework. We recall that women dedicate 183 minutes to housework and 95 minutes to children every day, for a total of 4h38 a day, according to an INSEE study published in 2015.
Other striking data: the younger the respondents, the less they believe they are underpaid: 18-24 years old I’m alone 35% consider themselves deserving of a higher salary, against 60% of 35-54 year olds. The survey also takes into account the profession exercised: the most dissatisfied employees with their salary are found in education and health, with 65%. More broadly, the study reveals this 54% of French people believe they are receiving an insufficient salary.
