It was learned the other day that Kirill Serebrennikov was shooting a biopic about the writer Eduard Limonov with Ben Whishaw in the lead role. The first shots from the movie “Limonov. The Ballad of Eddie” are scheduled to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17. Work on the movie is still ongoing, but the director and crew may already be facing lawsuits. Limonov’s ex-wife, actress Yekaterina Volkova, told Moskovsky Komsomolets that the filmmakers did not solve all the problems with the heirs. According to him, “the dialogue did not work out and now the intervention of lawyers and Americans” will follow.

Volkova also said that she read the script but was not involved in the work on the project. In a conversation with a MK journalist, Volkova expressed her doubts about the possibility of the film’s release in Russia.

Ekaterina Volkova was the last wife of the writer. In this marriage, Limonov had children for the first time in his life: son Bogdan and daughter Alexander. The couple broke up in 2008, but even after the divorce, Catherine spoke well of her ex-husband, stating that she was simply unsuitable for family life and did not interfere with her communication with children. In 2020, Eduard Limonov died at the age of 78 due to complications after surgery.

The full cast of the movie has not been announced yet, but it is known that the movie also includes Ben Whishaw, as well as the Russian actress Victoria Miroshnichenko, who became famous after the movie “Dylda”. She even plays the first official wife of Limonov, with whom she is married, the poetess and model Elena Shchapova. The script was based on the book “Lemons” by French writer Emmanuel Carrera.

Serebrennikov will also present his new film “Tchaikovsky’s Wife” at the Cannes Film Festival – the film is participating in the competition show.
