The SAG-AFTRA Council unanimously agrees to “strongly support” the WKV in its contract negotiations with AMPTP.

The National Council of SAG-AFTRA today voted unanimously to adopt a resolution “strongly supporting” the WGA in its ongoing negotiations for a new film and television agreement. “It is long past time for studios, streamers and other employers in the entertainment industry to remove barriers to fair and equitable wages and working conditions,” the resolution reads, “and to agree to terms that reflect the unique value and contribution of creative talent .” Workers without whom the industry would not exist.”

The WGA’s negotiations with the Alliance of Film and Television Producers, which began on March 20, are now entering their final week before the current contract expires on May 1. SAG-AFTRA will begin its own contract negotiations with the AMPTP on June 7 before the contract expires on June 30.

“History shows that fairness and equality to the workers who drive the creativity of the entertainment industry has only been achieved through solidarity and the efforts of workers working in their unions and guilds,” the SAG-AFTRA resolution said. “Changes in the economics of the entertainment industry have worked to the benefit of large employers and in many cases to the detriment of the creators who make their businesses possible.

“Workers are stronger when they are united, and the unions that represent them are more powerful when they work together and work together. After weeks of negotiations, it’s time for employers in our industry to step up and make meaningful changes to reward writers fairly and recognize their unique needs and concerns, which are shared by all artists and employees in the industry.
