Rosamund Pike Narrates Audible & BBC Spy Series Podcast ‘Mother, Neighbor, Russian Spy’

EXCLUSIVE: Audible is launching a new narrative documentary podcast exploring the true story behind the life of a Russian secret agent in the US, narrated by Oscar nominee Rosamund Pike (missing girl).

mother, neighbor, russian spy, Produced by BBC Studios, it will examine the case of Cindy Murphy – a wife, mother and financial professional who seems to be living the early 2000s dream of “having it all” in New York City. But all was not as it seemed.

With access to those who knew her personally, the Audible Original series follows the steps that led to Murphy being exposed by the FBI as a Russian sleeper agent.

Pike, who recently won the Audie Award for Best Female Narrator for her work on The eye of the worldwill chronicle Murphy’s complicated double life balancing motherhood and suburban life with espionage, and shed light on the lengths people will go to hide their identities from the motherland.

According to the producers, Pike used her personal ties to the FBI from previous acting roles to help the production team gain access to former FBI agents.

The nine-part series was commissioned by Audible and produced by BBC Studios’ Factual Podcast Unit. This is the second podcast to be released following the launch under a multi-project deal between BBC Studios’ Factual Podcast Unit and Audible I’m not Santa Claus earlier in the year. It starts on April 20.

Pike said: “This story is truly remarkable and has been a real passion project of mine for the past year. I have always been fascinated by espionage and have been lucky enough to explore this world through my acting, but Mother, neighbor, Russian spy made me even more curious as to how someone can take on an acting role for a lifetime while pretending to be someone they are not, even to their own children.
