The name Sindiso Khumalo may mean nothing to you right now, but he is still an emerging talent in the fashion industry. And to help her gain popularity, she signs a capsule collection with & Other Stories, a brand of the H & M group, which will be released on April 13, 2023.

Who is the young designer Sindiso Khumalo?
The young designer won the 2020 GCFA Independent Designer award (award from the Green Carpet Fashion Awards, which recognize eco-responsible talent), when she was already co-winner of the LVMH award the same year.
And this, thanks to a deeply committed fashion, both in its way of always wanting to reduce its social and environmental impact, but also in the messages it conveys, such as its spring-summer 2021 collection in homage to Harriet Tubman (American activist in favor to the abolition of African-American slavery, later an anti-racism activist and feminist).
For & Other Stories, Sindiso Khumalo has applied her colorful South African-inspired aesthetic to an easy-to-wear, easy-to-match summer wardrobe, as she explains in a statement:
“As an African designer, the main thing for me is to make clothes that highlight my heritage and history in a contemporary context. I like to add cultural elements that represent me on the fabrics. They become visual anecdotes that structure the collections. »

How is the collaboration between Sindiso Khumalo and Other Stories?
Cut from organic and recycled cotton and linen, the pieces give pride of place to sky blue, apple green and fine red or yellow embroideries, continues Sindiso Khumalo:
“Materials were the starting point for this collaborative collection, but we also wanted to find more sustainable sources of supply. For me it is essential to use more eco-responsible materials and create clothes that will be worn for the long term. I want to make garments that go beyond seasons and trends. »
Timeless, the cuts of the dresses have just the right amount of bohemian, little lightweight blouses perfect for summer, or even sportswear crochet tank tops and shorts look almost vintage. Which is normal given how Sindiso Khumalo presents his inspirations:
“Some silhouettes are inspired by vintage portraits of African women and women from the African diaspora. It is an integral part of the Sindiso Khumalo brand. We are very inspired and driven by the stories of racialized women of the 18thAnd and XIXAnd centuries. »
The Sindiso Khumalo & Other Stories collection will be available from April 13, 2023 on stories.com and in selected physical stores.
