A British tourist has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a horrific hit and run in the Mallorcan party town of Magaluf.
The holidaymaker was photographed mowing down two pedestrians, a Briton and a Polish woman, in a hire car after an altercation outside a nearby fast food restaurant on Thursday morning.
Footage released today by the island’s newspaper Ultima Hora shows the suspect apparently deliberately drove towards a group of people standing on the pavement and hit two flying men.
A trio of bystanders – a woman the victims were talking to and two men a few feet away – saw the car approaching and narrowly avoided being mowed down as the vehicle approached at high speed and uphill to which she waved.
Passers-by noticed the oncoming car speeding towards the curb and rushed to safety

Two people were hit unexpectedly and the car crashed into them and threw them into the air
One of the victims was left unconscious on the doorstep and both were taken to a private hospital in the island’s capital, Palma.
It was not immediately clear this morning whether they remained in hospital, although their injuries are not considered serious despite the severity of the impact.
The horrific incident happened just after 04:00 on Thursday.
According to local reports, the suspect had previously rowed with a Brit whose girlfriend had fought with his partner.
He allegedly left the scene in a rage before getting back behind the wheel minutes later, hitting the curb and hitting his victims.
It is not yet known if the man he just got into an argument with is one of the two people he injured.
The suspect, a 29-year-old whose name has not yet been released, was arrested after a search by the police at the nearby Son Matias beach.
Officers reportedly determined that he had been drinking and using drugs, although the Civil Guard has not yet confirmed alcohol and drug test results.
A spokesman for the force said in his first comment on the case this morning: “A 29-year-old Briton, who was on holiday in Mallorca, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he was in and out of Magaluf in the early hours of the morning drove from this morning to yesterday morning.
He was arrested on the nearby Son Matias beach after the police searched for him and his vehicle.

“The incident was preceded by some argument, which is still being investigated.
“One of the injured is a Polish woman, the other a British woman. Both were also on holiday in the area.”
A well-placed source said of the victims: “They were both taken to hospital but despite the severity of the impact they did not sustain any serious injuries and have now been released after treatment.
“You are very lucky to survive without life-changing injuries. The images clearly show that the car hit them at full speed.”

British tourist in critical condition after motorbike crash in Benidorm
A British tourist is fighting for his life after being hit by a motorbike in Benidorm.
The 25-year-old was about to cross a street at a red light when the accident happened.
A group of friends he was with reportedly tried to stop him and made him wait for the light to turn green at the intersection before he was hit by the powerful bike, whose rider was unable to avoid him.
The unnamed Briton received emergency medical care at the scene before being flown to the University of Alicante General Hospital in “life-threatening condition”, sources said. He suffered multiple injuries, including a head injury.
The accident happened at around 5.30pm on Thursday on a road near the Little England area of Benidorm, where the speed limit is just under 20mph.
The man who was run over was apparently on his way to the promenade of the resort’s famous Levante beach when he was hit by a car.
The motorcyclist, a 42-year-old man whose nationality has not been released, was also injured, although his injuries are not life-threatening.
An investigation was launched by the local police, which is trying to determine, among other things, whether the motorcyclist broke the speed limit.
Neither the police nor the hospital could be reached for an update this morning.
