A 15-year-old girl’s arm was ripped off in a shark attack off Piedade Beach in Brazil.

Horror footage shows the moment passers-by dragged Kaylane Timóteo Freitas to the beach and laid her on the ground with a bloody cloth covering the remains of her arm.

The teenager’s arm was amputated at a nearby hospital and she is believed to be in a stable condition.

The attack came just a day after a 14-year-old boy was attacked by a shark on the same beach, requiring his leg to be amputated.

Both attacks occurred within 500 meters of Piedade Beach, Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Pernambuco State, Brazil.

According to the authorities, a team of doctors visited the teenager on Monday around 1:20 p.m.

She was carried off the beach by rescue workers and taken to hospital by helicopter.

After an amputation, Kaylane is said to be in a stable condition at the hospital, where she is awake and able to answer questions.

Andréa Caribé, who lives in a building opposite the beach, said: “When I saw her, she was already covered with blankets and taken away.

“Even after that, people were still in the water. His [lifeguards] people pulled out.’

Psychologist Andrea Caribe, who lives in a building overlooking the beach, said she was stunned to see people left in the water after the attack.

She told local media: “You [the lifeguards] pulling people out.”

Swimming at Piedade beach has been prohibited since 2021 due to the high number of shark attacks.

The Recife metropolitan area is considered to have the deadliest shark attacks in the world.

The attack on Kaylane was the third in two weeks before Pernambuco.

On Sunday, March 5, a 14-year-old boy was left with his thigh bare after a shark attack.

On February 20, a surfer was bitten by a shark at Praia Del Chifre in Olinda.

Authorities pointed out that the beach has been a restricted bathing area since 2021 due to the frequency of shark attacks.

150 signs in the region warn of the danger of shark attacks and a government order has been in force since 1999.

City Hall said they will schedule a meeting with the state’s Shark Incident Monitoring Committee to decide whether to take new action in the area.

As a rule, most sharks are not dangerous to humans. Of the more than 300 species, only a dozen have been implicated in attacks on humans, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Great whites, tiger sharks and bull sharks make the most unprovoked attacks.

The apparent increase in attacks is related to increasing coastal populations and habitat destruction.

In 2022, there were 57 confirmed unprovoked cases worldwide, including 41 in the United States, and only five deaths.
