Buckingham Palace plans to officially refer to Camilla as “Queen” rather than “Queen Wife”. According to well-informed sources, the change is likely to be made by King George III in May. Charles is expected to arrive after his coronation.

The intervention, which the late Queen called for her bride to be called “Queen Consort” last February, is seen as a definitive show of support. Now, according to insider information, Buckingham Palace plans to go even further.

The first sign of a new approach came last week when Camilla launched The Queen’s Reading Room without her “spouse” after her charity The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room updated its name. It is believed that the Court Circular, the official record of royal meetings, may soon reflect this change as well.

A well-informed source said: “There is a perception in court that a queen mate is clumsy and it may be easier for Camilla to be recognized as just a queen when her time comes. The reading room was a testament to that. After all, Her Majesty is a Queen.” Some news outlets, including The Times and The Telegraph, had already dismissed Camille when they covered her.
