The Eurovision Song Contest has pledged million from the UK government; 3,000 tickets go to Ukrainian fans

The Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in the UK in May, has received a £10m grant from the UK government.

This money will be used for operating costs to ensure the event showcases Ukrainian culture and supports the host city of Liverpool

The competition takes place in the northern British city, for which local authorities have already pledged £4 million ($4.77 million) in funding.

The BBC reports that this is a change from last year, when the host city of Turin did not receive financial support from the Italian government, but instead spent £10m from its own resources, money which officials say it has on various occasions from tourism had a story.

Ukraine won the competition in 2022 but, unlike most previous winners this year, is unable to host the event due to the ongoing war with Russia. The UK, who finished second with singer Sam Ryder, is hosting in his place, but the BBC’s main presenter has promised that Ukraine will remain at the heart of the proceedings. For example, it was announced that on May 13, around 3,000 arena seat tickets will be available to Ukrainians living in the UK at a reduced price of £20.
