The presenter of the BBC’s most popular radio show is making his last appearance this week and says he has been forced to leave after 31 years.
Ken Bruce, who presents the country’s most popular morning show on Radio 2, will say goodbye to his millions of fans on Friday 3rd March.
The Scottish airwaves veteran announced his departure from the BBC last month, saying he was heading to Bauer’s Greatest Hits Radio – a station for older listeners, where he would join several ex-BBC presenters.
But Bruce was due to leave the BBC at the end of March. Yesterday he announced his early departure:
He wrote on Twitter: “This Friday I present my final show on Radio 2. I had planned to keep my contract until the end of March, but the BBC decided they wanted me to leave sooner. Let’s enjoy the coming week!”
The BBC announced earlier in the day that Bruce’s replacement will be presenter Vernon Kay.
Bruce’s departure comes amid turmoil at the station, with several well-known voices being replaced by younger names to rejuvenate Radio 2.
A BBC spokesman said: “Ken has decided to leave Radio 2 and it is understood he will be leaving in March… We wish Ken all the best for the future.”
