A British “killer-for-hire” codenamed “Batman” has been arrested over the alleged gang assault of a Serbian man in Cambodia.
The suspect, who Cambodian authorities say has gone by several names, including James Spader, was arrested in Phnom Penh yesterday for the alleged murder of 37-year-old Strahinja Dackovic outside a posh apartment building on Christmas Eve.
CCTV footage shows the moment Dackovic approached a white car parked in front of the apartment building and opened the door, only to be shot at point-blank range by the killer inside.
Dackovic stumbled to the ground and crawled across the road on all fours as the car sped away. He later died instantly.
The police who arrested the suspect yesterday seized a black Ruger pistol, a pocket knife and seven bullets from him. A lighter, rolling paper, pills and small amounts of marijuana were also found in his pockets.

It is unclear why Dackovic was killed, although photos from his social media accounts show Dackovic posing with firearms or parading large sums of money.

Officials are unsure of his true identity, as he allegedly used the alias “Batman” while working as a hired gunman in the crime-ridden Cambodian capital.
They said the suspect also has a number of identities that allow him to remain anonymous, including Joseph Swartz, Jason Vernazza, Alan Bradly Wilson and James Spader.
A statement from the Phnom Penh City Police Commissioner said: “At 19:30 on February 15, the Phnom Penh Police Commission and special agents continued investigations to arrest a suspect involved in the front-line shooting at The Peak apartment building in Connection available December 24.
“The suspect’s names are Joseph Swartz, Jason Vernazza, Alan Bradly Wilson and James Spader. He is a 31-year-old Englishman with an unknown occupation.
“By presenting the suspect and the above evidence, the police are building a case which will be referred to the Phnom Penh Public Prosecutor’s Office for further prosecution.”

Police investigating the case said they were hampered by the aliases the suspect used. They said he was known in the city’s criminal circles as “Batman” because of his tattoos and dark clothing.
An investigator involved in the case said today: “The shooting was gang-related. We found clues that lead to an assassin named Batman. It took us a long time to find him. We still don’t know his real name. He is not cooperating.’
Meanwhile, Serbian media reported that the victim is from the town of Brus in southern Serbia, but has been living in Cambodia for at least eight years.
It is unclear why he was killed, although images from his social media accounts show Dackovic posing with firearms or parading large sums of money.

Sor Thet, deputy commissioner of the national police and Phnom Penh police commissioner, said in a statement: “On February 15, the Phnom Penh police cooperated with the Khan Chamkar Mon police station to arrest a suspect in connection with a shooting outside The Peak to investigate to investigate..
