The MMA fighter posted footage of the immediate aftermath on his Instagram page, saying: “I could have been dead,” as an incredibly apologetic man told McGregor how sorry he was.

34-year-old McGregor’s crumpled turquoise racing bike was spotted on the ground with a gray car a few meters away.

McGregor, who returns to the UFC later this year, was involved in the incident along a leafy country road believed to be in Ireland.

The MMA fighter, who goes by the name The Notorious, said he was hit from behind while driving down the street.

During filming after the accident, the Irish mixed martial arts champion, who will coach on The Ultimate Fighter show, appeared out of breath and in shock.

At one point, the video shows McGregor’s ripped cycling shorts and what appears to be a wound on his thigh.

The man who appears to have been in the car apologizes to McGregor after pulling a few yards to the curb.

McGregor says, “Okay, mate, okay. No problem.”

He adds, “I could have been dead,” but he tells the man, “Happy birthday, mate.”

“I’m really sorry—seriously,” said the other man.

The MMA champion wrote on his Instagram page: “I’ve just been rear-ended by a car. A sun trap, the driver couldn’t see me.

“Completely by me. Thank God it was not my time.

Thanks also to wrestling and judo. A consciousness on the landing saved my life.”

The fighting champion asked the man to give him a ride home as his little blue bike was parked in the middle of the country road.

McGregor continued to film from the passenger seat of the man’s car, who introduced himself as Nick.

The shocked Irishman points his camera into the boot to capture his battered bike after the crash.

“I’m still here, thank God. That’s all that matters,” says McGregor.

Messages of support and concern poured in for the Irishman after he released footage of the incident.

One Instagram user wrote: “Take care Conor. I’m glad you’re ok.”

Another wrote: “Glad u ok man wtf!”

A third wrote: “Lucky Jaysu.”

A fourth said: “Very well handled!”
