Time’s Up Organization ceases operations and moves remaining funds to the Legal Defense Fund

Time’s Up is ceasing operations and moving its resources to its legal fund. The organization confirmed the closure through its official website and referred survivors of sexual harassment or violence at work to its Legal Defense Fund website.

The organization, which launched at the 2018 Golden Globes, was founded in the early days of the #MeToo movement following allegations by Harvey Weinstein.

Ashley Judd, Colleen DeCourcy and CFO Gabrielle Sulzberger were the last remaining board members of Time’s Up. Sulzberger confirmed to the AP that the organization’s activities will cease at the end of January.

“It was not an easy decision, but the board agreed that it was the right decision and the most impactful way forward,” she told the news outlet.

Sulzberger said there is $1.7 million in funds left that will be distributed to the Legal Defense Fund.

“The Legal Defense Fund simply reflects who we have been, not just from the beginning, but really at our core,” explains Sulzberger. “We really just decided that in the end we had to go back to our roots. (The Fund) was the first initiative we created and funded and remains at the heart of everything we have championed.”

Time’s Up’s closure comes after the organization announced a “reset” in November 2021 following the fallout of a New York Times report noting that council members killed NY Governor Andrew Cuomo following sexual assault allegations against him.
