Myco hunts sports rights for 1200% cricket streaming viewership peak

EXCLUSIVE: Myco claims to have seen a 1200 percent increase in new users after becoming the first Web3 video platform to stream a live sporting event.

The London and Dubai-based platform (formerly MContent) acquired rights to the bilateral India v Bangladesh cricket series for the MENA region, which saw a massive increase in user numbers compared to the previous 30 days as expatriates flocked to the sport have in December. Myco saw a 431% increase in views and a 344% increase in engaged sessions.

The platform allows viewers to earn tokens while watching, which are then used to access more content. Approximately $26,250 in MContent tokens were awarded from advertising revenue from advertisers and sponsors such as Decathlon, Menthos and GAC Motor.

Myco is now “actively seeking and in discussions” to secure more live sports and events in both MENA and beyond. The service is available worldwide.

Vivek Chandra, director and head of affairs at bilateral serial rights distributors ITW MEA, said: “When we met Myco from a completely different angle, we realized that we have the same synergy and desire to challenge existing content consumption.

“We decided to move away from traditional broadcasters and offered Myco to broadcast live matches of India tour to Bangladesh on their platform as we were excited about the fact that Myco as a platform offers satisfaction based fan engagement which with Web3 /Blockchain technology was created. Everyone can judge the success of this event for themselves and we look forward to working with myco on future events as well.”

It comes shortly after Deadline revealed that Myco had hired Decrypt Studios to produce a feature-length documentary about the rise and fall of FTX and its founder Sam Bankman-Fried. It also started a documentary series The Blockchain Life and signed a first-look deal with The Bridge to build relationships with Southeast Asian creatives and appeal to Asian audiences, while also announcing a $100,000 fund for local filmmakers.
