Munya Chawawa looks set to emulate viral comedy success on his own Channel 4 show

EXCLUSIVE: British-Zimbabwean comedian Munya Chawawa hopes to translate his wildly viral online sketch into his own TV show.

The 30-year-old is working on a pilot for UK public broadcaster Channel 4, following his increasing TV appearances in recent years.

The non-airing pilot is untitled The Late Night Munyaverse and will feature a mix of studio and filmed comedy sketches. It is produced by Rumpus Media, which makes The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganathan for BBC2.

Chawawa’s recent sketches have garnered 32 million views on TikTok alone, often featuring the comedian ripping off politicians through parodies of popular songs.

For example, when Matt Hancock, the former British Health Secretary, was exposed for having an affair, Chawawa wrote a sketch about Shaggys It was not me.

Other frequent targets include Bear Grylls; Nigella Lawson, British food presenter; and Salt Bae, the Turkish restaurateur.

Chawawa has appeared on comedy entertainment shows Complaints welcome and teacher for Channel 4 while he also has a role as Choronzon on Netflix The Sandman.
