Vladimir Putin gleefully launched a warship armed with new nuclear-capable Mach-9 hypersonic Zircon cruise missiles on a mission to challenge the West.
The Russian despot attended an online ceremony with Sergei Shoigu to deploy Admiral Gorshkov on his mission across the Atlantic, Indian Ocean and Mediterranean, armed with one of the world’s deadliest weapons.
The ship immediately launched a test launch of advanced nuclear-capable Zircon missiles, which will fly at nearly 7,000 miles per hour in the Barents Sea and hit a target 600 miles away in the White Sea, the Kremlin claimed.
Putin has previously claimed that the missiles have “no equivalent in the world” and that their arrival in Russia comes at a much-needed time after several setbacks in Ukraine, which have already seen the loss of nearly 3,000 troops this year.

The modern nuclear-capable Zircon missiles, which can reach speeds of nearly 11,000 km/h, “have no equivalent in the world,” Putin previously claimed.
“During the exercises, the crew will be trained in the use of hypersonic weapons and long-range cruise missiles,” he said.
Shoigu said the Zircon missiles are “capable of overcoming any modern or future air defense” and can “deliver well-targeted and powerful strikes against the enemy at sea and on land.”
State news agency TASS said earlier: “It will carry out its combat mission in the Mediterranean with Tsirkon hypersonic missiles on board.”
The frigate underwent scheduled maintenance at the Kronstadt Naval Works.
The new mission is designed to take the Gorshkovs off the coast of the British Isles as they go on missions during the bloody conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
However, the Russians did not disclose the exact route or the exact time.
Shoigu said the Zircon missiles can “overcome any modern or future air defense.”
Moscow boasted that the Gorshkov was “the most dangerous enemy of surface ships on the oceans” since she was armed with the new hypersonic missile.
It also has the latest Kalibr missiles – used against Ukraine – in its arsenal.
According to Russian media reports, zircon tests would be carried out during the trip without saying at what stage.
Deployment of the sea-launched missile, with a speed of 6,670 miles per hour and a range of about 1,000 kilometers, follows tests in the Barents Sea.
Oleg Gladkiy, commander of the Russian Northern Fleet’s missile ships, said: “The ship is armed with cruise missiles, including long-range missiles and hypersonic Zircon missiles.

Putin has shown great interest in the development of the Zircon and announced a “error-free” salvo launch with the new-age rocket a year ago.
