‘Westworld’: James Marsden explains why he feels ‘disappointed’ by the cancellation and the end of the series

A few months ago it was confirmed that the sci-fi series ‘Westworld’ had been canceled and, thus, that it ended in its fourth season. This came as a surprise to much of the audience, as it had been reported on several occasions that they were planning a fifth. James Marsden (‘X-Men’, ‘Hairspray’), actor of the first, second and fourth seasons of ‘Westworld’ has spoken out about the decision to cancel the series.

‘Westworld’: James Marsden explains why he feels ‘disappointed’ by the cancellation and the end of the series

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Marsden shared his disappointment with the premature end of ‘Westworld’: “I’d be lying to you if I told you the way we wrapped up ‘Westworld’ wasn’t disappointing. I’ll never talk about not being grateful for each of my experiences, but it would have been nice to be able to complete the story we wanted to tell.” As if dealing with a cancellation wasn’t enough, fans will also have to deal with the end of the series. As part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s new cost-cutting strategy, HBO Max, the streaming platform where “Westworld” was available, has removed it from its catalog.

Marsden explains that he understands it’s a business decision, but he can’t stop thinking he wishes there were more important things: “I completely understand that it’s an expensive show and that big shows have to have big audiences to be worth the money, I just wish it was considered something beyond financial success.”. Part of the disappointment the actor feels about the cancellation of “Westworld” is due to how connected he was to it: “I love my ‘Westworld’ family. It was one of those unique opportunities that allows you to be a part of something. [tan emocionante] that I’d also be sitting at home eagerly waiting for the next episode, as a fan.”

there is always hope

In the same interview with Rolling Stone, James Marsden states that despite everything to the contrary, still has some hope that ‘Westworld’ has the originally intended ending: “Who knows, maybe there’s a world where it can somehow be completed. Maybe it’s just an illusion, because I know we planned to end it the way we wanted”.
