December 29, 2022 Update – From 1 January 2023, the system implemented in March 2022 will automatically cover all separations, including for example consensual divorces.
This was stated in a statement by the Ministry of Health “as soon as the alimony is fixed, regardless of the type of decision (judicial divorce, consensual extrajudicial divorce, judge’s decision relating to the exercise of parental authority for unmarried or divorced parents, enforceable issued by the Caf…) the financial intermediation will be be automatic, unless both parents jointly oppose it or if the judge rejects it “.

In France, one in three child support allowances is not paid! And this weakens the financial balance of single mothers, who are sometimes very precarious.
Payment of alimony now it will go through CAF (family allowance fund), unless both parents wish to do so. The reform has applied since March 1 to divorces pronounced by a judge, as FranceInfo tells us, reported by AFP.
From 1 January 2023 all other separations for couples with minor children will be affected:
“There is no need to have a divorce decree anymore, even unmarried couples will be able to use it. »
CAF will then have an intermediary rolebut no recovery.

Concretely, what changes?
The parent who has to pay maintenance pays it to the CAF, which then pays it to the other parent, i.e. the mother. If the debtor does not pay, CAF initiates measures to recover the debtand in the meantime pay the other parent a minimum allowance of 124 euros per month and for child.
122 million euros have been budgeted to cover expected expenses this year and up to 179 million in 2025, as indicated FranceInfo.
On Twitter, the Fighting Collective vs. economic violence, warns us of the dangers of this new measure:
For neuneus at the bottom of the class.
1. Centralize flow management #food at CAF is a big mistake. In case of non-payment, this deprives the victims of their rights. Recovery procedures are exclusive, can not seize bailiff / TP https://t.co/YOZNC8tU7d

Single mothers, likely to be poverty stricken
In France, after separations, 80% of children live with their mother in the main residence, 15% of custody is alternated and 5% of children live with their father in the main residence.
The average amount of alimony does not exceed 200 euros per child, but this sum is sometimes very necessary for mothers who raise their children alone.
Pensions make up an average of 20% of income single parents. If this pension is not paid, these mothers may therefore find themselves in difficulty.
Single mothers make up 54% of cases of over-indebtedness. Also, single mothers are poorer than single fathers. No shit… Another inequality, which stems from many other economic inequalities between women and men.
In his book Dad in danger?, Edouard Leport also indicates that many fathers claim joint custody, without subsequently assuming it, in order not to have to pay their pension. Great class.
It’s time to restore some financial balance between estranged mothers and fathers, with real measures not window displays! Women (and children) are still the big losers in this system.
