While filming Avatar: The Way of the Water, Kate Winslet considered breaking Tom Cruise’s record for holding his breath underwater.
“Poor Tom,” Kate told USA Today. “I mean, I don’t know Tom at all – I’ve never met him in my life – but I’m sure he’s really tired of hearing this story about how I broke his record. But I loved it… I was amazed at how good I was at it and how I was getting better.

In Avatar: The Path of Water, Kate played Ronal, an alien queen and leader of an ocean clan. On the set, the actress managed to hold her breath underwater for seven minutes and 14 seconds. Kate’s results aren’t surprising, given that she’s been heavily freediving in the months before filming.
Tom Cruise’s record time without breathing underwater was six minutes. It happened while filming the 2015 spy sequel Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.
