Australian model Lara Worthington has shared a series of intimate photos on Instagram to celebrate the 50th birthday of her husband, Avatar star Sam Worthington. The 39-year-old model uploaded the loved-up images on Monday, one day after the actor turned 50.

The photos captured the notoriously private couple enjoying an alfresco dinner against a picturesque, scenic mountainous backdrop as they smiled, embraced, and gazed lovingly into each other's eyes. In one image, Lara leaned in close to her husband across the dinner table. Another showed her wrapping her arms around Sam and resting on his shoulder while beaming for the camera, while a third captured him lovingly kissing his wife's head.

Alongside the romantic gallery, Lara paid tribute to her husband with a heartfelt caption. "My passionate, loyal Leo teddy bear. Big heart, even bigger dreams. We love you," she wrote.

Relationship and family life
The couple have long kept their relationship out of the spotlight despite Sam's Hollywood success, making Lara's candid birthday post a rare insight into their family life. Lara and Sam began dating in 2013 after meeting in New York, and they tied the knot in a low-key ceremony the following year.

Sam has enjoyed an extraordinary career in Hollywood, with his portrayal of Jake Sully in James Cameron's Avatar franchise cementing him as one of Australia's biggest international stars. The birthday celebration showcases the enduring bond the couple has built over more than a decade together.

They share three sons together while largely avoiding the public eye. The couple welcomed their first son, Rocket, on March 24, 2015, in Los Angeles. Their second son, Racer, was born in New York in October 2016, approximately 18 months later.
The pair secretly welcomed their third son, River, in June 2020. The family splits their time between Australia and the United States, and they are currently based in the US.
Life together and values
Although the family is based in the United States, Lara has stated that she will always be Australian at heart. "I still have an Australian passport. I'm still Australian!" she previously admitted.
Lara also told The Daily Telegraph that the couple is enjoying growing old together. "We've only got each other. Sam and I are a good team," she said. "We're both Australians and we have the same values. We come at our children as a team... I think that's really important."
