Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took part in a closed investment discussion organized by venture capital firm General Catalyst in the United States to promote technology investments and artificial intelligence in Greece.
The meeting brought together investors, founders of fast-growing technology companies, and senior executives from the Silicon Valley innovation ecosystem to review digital infrastructure and research initiatives.
Silicon Valley investment talks
During the gathering, Mitsotakis held a targeted discussion with Alexis Black Björlin, the chief strategy officer of General Catalyst. Their talks focused on prospects for expanded investment in Greece, the dynamics of the domestic innovation ecosystem, and national priorities in technology and artificial intelligence.
The discussion centered on creating favorable conditions to attract international technology companies, strengthening and internationalizing Greek startups, and making effective use of Greek scientific and business talent. Participants also evaluated broader developments in artificial intelligence and the commercial opportunities created for Europe and Greece in research and digital infrastructure.
General Catalyst is an American venture capital firm that manages funds investing in early-stage and growth-stage technology businesses. Mitsotakis has served as the prime minister of Greece since July 2019, leading the center-right New Democracy party.
San Francisco meeting and UN summit
Earlier in the day, Mitsotakis met with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie for talks on urban policy. The two leaders addressed shared areas of interest, placing particular emphasis on how technology and innovation can resolve municipal challenges facing modern metropolises.
San Francisco and the surrounding Silicon Valley region in Northern California form a global epicenter for venture capital investment, technology startups, and scientific innovation. Lurie serves as the elected mayor overseeing municipal administration in San Francisco.
Following his meetings in California, Mitsotakis is traveling to New York to participate in the High-Level Week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly. The annual assembly at UN headquarters brings together international heads of state and diplomats for multilateral discussions.
