An 82-year-old holidaymaker has died in hospital after a fight over a beach sunbed at Vouliagmeni near Athens, British newspaper The Sun reported.
Police arrested a 76-year-old man following the fatal altercation. Officers took the suspect to a nearby police station to provide testimony regarding the clash.
The tragedy occurred on Vouliagmeni beach when the 82-year-old man became embroiled in a dispute over a sun lounger with the 76-year-old holidaymaker. During the argument, the older man allegedly claimed that he was a veteran of the navy.
The dispute quickly escalated into violence. According to reports, the 76-year-old suspect and his 21-year-old female companion together attacked and beat the elderly pensioner on the beach.
Eyewitnesses stated that medical responders rushed to the scene immediately after the fight and attempted to resuscitate the injured pensioner. The victim remained unconscious throughout the resuscitation efforts and was rushed to a local hospital, where he later stopped showing signs of life.
