American media personality and businesswoman Kylie Jenner will play the main role in the new television series Bachelorette Weekend for the streaming platform Hulu.
The star will also work behind the camera, producing the project alongside her sister Kim Kardashian, according to entertainment industry news outlet Deadline.
The series opens with a group of friends celebrating at a bachelorette party. The gathering takes a dark turn when the women discover that the bride, played by Jenner, is dead. All of the friends become suspects in her death as the story gradually reveals the events that led to the tragedy.
Bachelorette Weekend is adapted from an unpublished book by Flora Collins, an author known for writing psychological thrillers. Hulu, the American subscription video streaming service owned by The Walt Disney Company, serves as the home for the new drama. The platform already streams the family reality series The Kardashians.
Transition from reality television to acting
Jenner first gained international fame on the reality television show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which tracked the lives of her family for more than a decade. She subsequently built a massive commercial empire through her beauty company Kylie Cosmetics while continuing to appear on television.
Her older sister Kim Kardashian, who is also producing the series, is a prominent media personality and entrepreneur who founded the shapewear brand SKIMS. Kardashian has previously ventured into acting, appearing in television drama series alongside her business projects.
The new Hulu series follows Jenner's appearance in the movie The Moment, which was released in February. British singer and songwriter Charli XCX starred in the lead role of that film and created the original story concept for the screenplay.
Following her debut in the movie, Jenner discussed her future screen acting plans in an interview with the American monthly magazine Vanity Fair. The businesswoman explained that she had been offered several scripts and expressed a strong desire to try her hand at comedy roles.
Hollywood response to acting goals
However, her ambition to venture into comedy acting reportedly raised eyebrows among movie industry figures. An anonymous insider familiar with the situation said that people in Hollywood were laughing at her comments about moving into comedy.
Despite the reaction, Jenner is now pressing ahead with her shift into scripted television. In Bachelorette Weekend, she will combine on-screen work with her role as producer alongside Kardashian, bringing the mystery thriller to Hulu audiences.
