President Keiko Fujimori Higuchi promised full state backing for police officers fighting crime during a recognition ceremony for seven non-commissioned officers of the National Police. Fujimori said her government is working to restore order and peace in Peru through prioritized police intelligence and long-term security measures.
Fujimori noted that officers facing insecurity directly are essential to the fight and described the awards as a government tribute to their work. She told reporters that every operation against criminal gangs will be supported and every blow dealt to offenders will receive full state protection.
Public space enforcement and Plan Escudo
In a separate tour aimed at recovering public spaces for merchants, entrepreneurs, and citizens, Interior Minister Astudillo announced new enforcement actions, including the registration of electric motorcycles. Astudillo said permanent police patrols and territorial control will operate throughout the day to preserve authority and stop illegal occupation of public areas.
Astudillo was accompanied on the tour by National Police Commander General Óscar Arriola, Lima Police Region Chief General Jorge Castillo, La Victoria Mayor Rubén Cano Altez, and merchant representatives. On Saturday, the minister reported that the police and the Armed Forces activated Plan Escudo to strengthen public transport security, backed by permanent joint intelligence operations to anticipate crime.
