Former Spanish bullfighter José Ortega Cano has declared he knows nothing about a public argument between his sister Mari Carmen and ex-wife Ana María Aldón.
The retired matador insisted he stays away from television broadcasts and that his inner circle keeps him isolated from tabloid gossip and media headlines. When asked about the ongoing dispute between his family members, Ortega Cano maintained he had no idea what was being said and was completely unaware of the comments.
Ortega Cano is one of Spain's most prominent former bullfighters, having spent decades in the public eye both for his career in the ring and his high-profile personal life. For several years, he has sought to lead a quiet life away from the frequent media conflicts involving his relatives. However, he regularly finds himself caught in crossfire when family tensions resurface in the celebrity press.
The latest row erupted following comments made about media personality Rocío Flores. Discussions began the previous week when Ortega Cano defended Flores after she broke down in tears on television, confessing that she had thought about disappearing due to severe emotional suffering. Although references to Rocío Carrasco were made during that initial discussion, the current dispute centers on statements made by Ortega Cano's sister.
Sister Mari Carmen launches public attack
Mari Carmen Ortega Cano stepped into the public debate to offer strong support for Rocío Flores, whom she described as deeply loved by the family. At the same time, she launched a sharp critique against Ortega Cano's former wife, fashion designer and television personality Ana María Aldón.
During her public appearance, Mari Carmen questioned whether Aldón had a clear conscience or was able to sleep peacefully at night. She accused her former sister-in-law of causing tremendous harm to the Ortega Cano family in past years. Mari Carmen also claimed that Rocío Flores was playing the victim when detailing her psychological struggle, while noting that Aldón was now living quietly.
Ana María Aldón responds on television
Aldón responded directly to the accusations during an appearance on the Telecinco television show Fiesta, where she works as a regular contributor. Aldón, who shares a young son named José María with Ortega Cano, acknowledged that she had made mistakes in the past, stating that she was not perfect and did not deny causing pain to her former husband.
However, the designer defended her overall record during her marriage to the bullfighter. She stressed that she had stood by Ortega Cano during extremely critical moments while other family members were away on holiday. Aldón argued that critics often forget the hurt that was inflicted upon her, adding that she was now peaceful and beyond menopause.
Addressing the controversy with irony, Aldón stated on the program that she believed she had done more good than harm. She added that if she had caused damage, she hoped God would forgive her and Saint Peter would open the door for her, joking that if she were sent to hell instead, there would likely be more parties and celebrations there. Aldón emphasized that she had healed her emotional wounds, was happy, and had no interest in reopening old arguments or engaging in direct conflict with her former sister-in-law.
Ortega Cano maintains complete distance
Despite his sister adding fuel to the public dispute, Ortega Cano remains determined not to give his former wife an opportunity to continue a personal crusade against him. The former matador has refused to engage with the reproaches or participate in the media clash, reiterating that he remains entirely detached from the television headlines surrounding his family.
