Israeli Court Halts Plan for Crocodiles at Ketziot Prison

An Israeli court has suspended a government plan to install a moat filled with crocodiles at Ketziot Prison in the Negev desert, a measure intended to stop Palestinian detainees from escaping.

The proposal was championed by Itamar Ben Gvir, Israel's minister of national security. It called for using the reptiles as an extra barrier around the prison's perimeter.

Animal Welfare Group Challenges Plan

An animal rights organization challenged the plan in court, arguing that it would amount to mistreatment of the crocodiles.

The court has ruled, for now, to block the transfer of the animals to the prison until it reaches a final decision on whether the project is legal.
