Soviet and Russian actress Irina Bezrukova has denied accusations of plastic surgery, stating that negative online comments about her facial appearance are based on misunderstandings.
Speaking on journalist Yevgeniya Beletskaya's podcast, More Than an Interview, the 61-year-old artist addressed persistent claims that she underwent cosmetic operations on her eyes and lips.
Bezrukova explained that the asymmetry in her eyes originated in childhood following an accident in a hayloft. She suffered a severe head impact that left her bedridden with a concussion for three days, causing one eye to appear narrower than the other.
She noted that childhood photographs of her laughing clearly display one squinted eye, demonstrating that the asymmetry was present long before her acting career began.
Social media criticism and natural appearance
Addressing speculation surrounding her lips, Bezrukova stated that she naturally had fuller lips as a child, leading her to feel she resembled Donald Duck. She suggested that critics look at photographs from her youth rather than assuming she received cosmetic injections after full lips became popular.
The actress also discussed her wider attitude toward plastic surgery, revealing that she regularly turns down offers from cosmetic surgery representatives at social events. She attributed her reluctance to a family tragedy that occurred when she was 11 years old, when her mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor and subsequently died following a second operation.
Following her mother's death, Bezrukova said she avoids allowing medical personnel with scalpels or needles near her whenever possible. She noted that she prefers to refrain from intravenous drips and injections unless strictly necessary and performed by trusted professionals.
