Google Meet allows users to schedule and host video calls for work meetings, classes, presentations or personal coordination directly from a computer, phone or tablet. The free version, available to anyone with a Google account, lets people create virtual meetings, share access with others and schedule them for a specific date and time.
Google Meet is Google's video conferencing platform, built to work alongside Gmail and Google Calendar, and is used around the world for both personal and professional video calls.
In its free mode, a single organizer can create a video conference with up to 100 participants and a maximum length of 60 minutes per meeting. Users can access the service directly through Google Meet, Google Calendar or Gmail, and the official app is also available on mobile devices.
How to schedule a free video call on Google Meet
From a computer, users open Google Meet and select the option to start a new meeting. From there, they can generate a link to use later, start a video call immediately, or choose to schedule it through Google Calendar. This last option opens a calendar event where the day, time and participants who will receive the invitation can be set.
Another way is to go directly to Google Calendar, create an event and add a Google Meet video conference to it. Saving the event generates a unique code linked to that meeting. On Android phones, the Meet app also has a "Schedule" option that opens the calendar so the details of the meeting can be filled in, after which the meeting can be accessed through the generated link.
How to join a Google Meet call from a link or code
Anyone who receives an invitation can join through the link sent by email, chat or another channel. They can also go to the Google Meet homepage, enter the meeting code and select the option to join. If the meeting is listed on Google Calendar, opening the event and clicking the corresponding button is enough to enter.
Google also allows people to join certain meetings without holding a Google account. In that case, the person must open the link or enter the code, type their name and request access, which the organizer or another authorized participant must then approve. Some work or school accounts may have restrictions set by their administrators, so access will depend on each organization's own settings.
