A mysterious pneumonia is apparently rampant in schools in China.
Hospitals in Beijing and 800 kilometers northeast of Liaoning are “overloaded with sick children” while school classes “are about to close,” local news reports said.
The children show unusual symptoms, including pneumonia and high fever, but no cough or other symptoms usually associated with influenza, RSV and other respiratory illnesses.
The warning was issued late Tuesday by ProMed – a large, publicly available global surveillance system that monitors infectious diseases.
It was a December 2019 ProMed report that alerted many doctors and scientists, including World Health Organization officials, to a mysterious virus later named Covid.
