Could Duke of Sussex’s ‘Spare’ Memoir Be Behind Beard Transplant Explosion?
A hair clinic in Turkey believes so after demand for the procedure has doubled in recent weeks.
Dubbed the “Prince Harry” effect by EsteNove of Istanbul, it has been inundated with beardless men willing to pay £2,500 to get the royal family’s iconic “tough and masculine” facial hair.
And the clinic claimed the cover of “Spare,” which hit TV and bookstores around the world last month, is being brought in by patients who just want the look.
Batuhan Kizilcan, co-founder of EsteNove, told MailOnline: “Interest in beard transplants has grown steadily over the past few years as more and more people have become aware of the procedure.

“But in the last few weeks it has exploded.”
“The number of transplants we do has increased by 100 percent and we call it the Prince Harry effect.”
He said that while it is not unusual for a patient to want to imitate a celebrity’s hair or bun, a name is now the priority.
“Right now the name Prince Harry is on everyone’s lips,” he said.
“People are specifically referring to the photo on the cover of his new book.

“Our clients think his beard makes him look tough and masculine, and they want similar results.”
Mr Kizilcan said that while problems with facial hair growth are not as well known as baldness, they do affect many men.
“It’s very common for people to have or develop gaps in their facial hair, making it look patchy or messy,” he said.
“Sometimes beard hair grows very slowly or unevenly.
“It often has a genetic background. The face can look very bare with a few hairs here and there.”
He said beard transplants gave people a way to deal with this problem and get the facial hair of their dreams, which at the time was Harry’s famous ginger goatee and sideburns.
“Recent advances in technology have provided a quality and permanent solution for men who would like to have a beard but cannot grow it themselves,” he said.
“You can choose the beard cut, the shape, the thickness of the beard and the style – and the style that people want now is Prince Harry’s.”
Beard transplants typically make up just 5 percent of the roughly 250 procedures EsteNove performs on average each month.
But the clinic said that has now doubled to 10 percent.
Around 50 per cent of the 3,000 patients treated by EsteNove each year are British.
The clinic charges around £2,500 for a full beard transplant, a fraction of what a similar procedure costs in the UK.
In a beard transplant, hair follicles at the donor site, usually at the back of the head, are first examined under a microscope to find the strongest contenders for success.
It is then removed under anesthesia before being transplanted into the man’s face.
This process usually takes three to five hours.
The transplanted hair then falls out within a few weeks before growing back, with a full beard believed to be possible within 10 months.

Beard transplants are not available on the NHS as they are considered a cosmetic procedure.
Harry’s bombastic biography, Spare, attracted worldwide attention last month with shocking details about his life.
These include losing his virginity to an “old woman”, freezing his penis during a trip to the Arctic, and taking psychedelics to help cope with the tragic death of his mother, Princess Diana.
Harry and his wife Meghan were recently mocked by South Park, which teased the couple with a parody depicting the Prince and Princess of Canada – a young royal couple who spoke out about privacy while drawing attention.
In the episode, the red-haired prince and his wife promote the prince’s book “Waaagh”.
